Fine flakes so intricately small they disappear

against bright gray sky, roads and sidewalks.

In this forest, every surface takes some,

except for the creek, which accepts it

as brethren. I extend my bare hands.

 

Moving the River

Watching the workmen moving the river today,

I thought about when my young sons

and I once diverted the local creek.

Lifting rocks, digging mud, making stick dams –

we changed its course. Until it rained.
