That first leaf to abandon the summer –
at first I thought it was sad,
giving up early because of a few
cool days. But tonight, it feels brave.
Letting it end before it must end.
A fallen leaf, small and sexy red,
sideways-viewed as an artist’s disembodied lipsticked smile.
It is female. She is quite seductive.
I want to put my finger there,
brush a spot away. Plant a kiss.
One brown leaf on the morning step
reminds me first of autumn, but then
my mind turns green as the sun
crossing my face for a warm moment,
before the wind brings back winter.
