In the Church of Cinema

From our padded pews in the darkness,

incense of popcorn heavy in the air,

light flickers figures before us, not gods,

movie stars in this half-life heaven where

sins are forgiven and whispered prayers unanswered.

Before the Fall

Things were different. Innocent. An eternal summer.

The trees are full of apples now.

Parents bring their children to pick them.

Cider and doughnuts, harvest, a warming fire.

No fear of another fall. No sins.
